What is Montessori?

Montessori education is a time-tested method of learning that has been transforming young lives for over 100 years. Developed by Dr Maria Montessori, it is rooted in the belief that children are naturally curious and capable of guiding their learning when given the right tools and environment.

A Proven Method

With over a century of success worldwide, the Montessori approach focuses on nurturing independence, critical thinking, and self-motivation. It fosters a love for learning by encouraging exploration, experimentation, and discovery at their own pace.

Independence in Thought and Action

Montessori education places trust in a child’s ability to learn and grow independently, empowering children to make choices, solve problems, and take responsibility, which in turn, builds confidence and self-reliance in the child.

The Prepared Environment

Central to the Montessori philosophy is the Prepared Environment, a space designed to meet the developmental needs of each child. This environment works hand-in-hand with didactic learning materials. Together, they provide a setting that supports exploration and growth.

Grace and Courtesy

Montessori also places emphasis on social skills, teaching children grace and courtesy through daily interactions. From learning polite manners to respecting others, children develop the social etiquette needed to navigate the world with empathy and respect.

The Role of Didactic Learning Materials

At the heart of the Montessori classroom, is the didactic material—carefully crafted tools that encourage hands-on learning. These materials are designed to help children understand complex concepts through exploration, repetition, and self-correction, boosting confidence and independence.

By combining a proven methodology, independent learning, a nurturing environment, and social development, Montessori education nurtures the whole child—mind, body, and heart. Ready to see how Montessori can make a difference for your child? Visit us today!

The 5 Areas of Montessori

The children’s house Montessori is guided by the Montessori approach to nurture your child’s development in five key areas. These areas are carefully designed to build skills that support growth, independence, and a love of learning. Montessori materials, known as didactic materials, are largely used to support each child’s learning.

This area focuses on everyday activities that teach children to care for themselves, their environment, and others. We encourage tasks that mimic household chores like pouring, cleaning, and buttoning clothes to help develop fine motor skills, concentration, and independence.

Practical life activities build a strong foundation for self-confidence and responsibility.

Sensorial activities refine a child’s senses, helping them explore and classify the world around them. Our didactic Montessori materials focus on size, texture, sound, and colour allows children to develop observation and problem-solving skills while laying the groundwork for more complex learning in subjects like math and science.

Our language programme introduces children to reading, writing, and verbal communication. Through phonetic awareness, storytelling, and vocabulary-building activities, children learn to express themselves clearly and confidently. This area supports the development of literacy and enhances communication skills.

The application of didactic Montessori materials makes abstract mathematical concepts tangible and accessible for young learners. Hands-on activities like counting beads and learning about patterns help children understand numbers, addition, subtraction, and more. These early experiences develop a strong mathematical foundation.

The cultural area introduces children to geography, history, science, art, and music. Through exploration, they learn about the world, different cultures, and their place within the world. We aim to nurture innate curiosity, respect one another, and encourage a lifelong interest in learning about diverse communities and environments.
